So I picked up Wii Fit last night at midnight. I woke up this morning to try out the new game before work. It took me a while to get the fitness board synced with the Wii, but after I finally got that to work it was Game On!
I started out with the daily fitness test. It calculates your BMI (body mass index), weight, and balance. I started off with OK balance, a BMI of 22.77, and a weight of 157 lbs. This gave me an overall "Wii Fit" age of 35 (while I am 23 years old). This Wii Fit age doesn't truly mean much, but it is a good indicator of how a person is progressing over time.
After that, I decided to try a few games before work. I tried all of the balance games, a few aerobic exercises, and a couple yoga exercises (deep breathing and half-moon). One thing that I didn't know about until playing is that not all 40 exercise games are unlocked at the start... you unlock them over time by how many minutes you spend playing the game. This is actually a good thing, as you get a little excitement every time you see you unlocked a new activity.
So how do I feel after 10-15 minutes of play time? Exactly the same, of course. But I do see how this can actually help a person get better posture and potentially lose weight / gain muscle. The Hula Hoop game, in particular, had me already feeling out of breath after a while (yes, I am out of shape). The Running game also was particularly fun, as you forget for a moment that you are just standing in place stepping at a certain rate (until you look down, see your feet barely moving, and feel like an idiot).
I will try to keep a daily or weekly log of my activities so you can see how I progress over the next several weeks, and so that you can compare your own progress to that of mine. I also will not be holding myself to only using Wii Fit, but I plan on starting a full exercise routine. This will involve Wii Fit, Running (Real, not Virtual), and ab, leg, and arm exercises. Wii Fit will make keeping track of most of these activities easier, as it has the ability to input time from external activities into your Wii Fit Calendar. For instance, today I did an 8 minute ab routine.
I also plan on trying to eat better, but I have been trying to do that for years, so I do not expect immediate changes in that department.
I hope you enjoy reading about my venture into the world of Wii Fit, and I hope that if you as well are starting a Wii Fit routine that you will let me know in the comments how you are progressing over time.
